Global tourism sectors recently hope Canada will remove travel restrictions, as other countries have opened their borders
The executive director of the B.C. tourism industry Walter Judas said that if people are fully vaccinated, there is no need for them to face significant barriers when entering Canada.
He added that current restrictions have become a major obstacle to encouraging international travel to the country. While Canada continues to maintain travel restrictions and advises non-essential travel, countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia have recently relaxed entry requirements for international travellers.
Airlines including WestJet and Air Canada have also urged the federal government to consider changes, arguing that air travel is one of the safest activities while facing some of the strictest restrictions in Canada.
The airlines also said that Canada is currently the only G7 country that requires COVID-19 testing both before arrival and after entry.
