Gas prices in the Greater Vancouver region have reached a historic high after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
Earlier this month, the average price reached $1.80 per litre, and gas analyst Dan McTeague predicted prices could rise another 3 cents to $1.83 before Saturday, potentially setting a new record. McTeague said that prices may stabilize or even decrease in the near future, depending on the international situation. He also urged the B.C. government to suspend the carbon tax and the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, saying these two policies have added about 27 cents per litre to the cost of gasoline. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation supported his opinion, arguing that while global market prices are beyond the government’s control, domestic taxes are not.
